BREAKING NOW: Protesters Block Trump’s Sec. of Education Betsy Devos from Entering D.C. School

A group of Betsy DeVos protesters greeted the new Secretary of Education in her first public appearance today. The protesters blocked her from entering a Washington D.C. school, and forced her to go back to her car. Protesters then heckled her as she walked and tried to block the SUV she was in.

Perhaps the most idiotic aspect of the entire situation was the nature of the protesters themselves. One of the more vocal protesters was a white guy carrying a “Black Lives Matter” sign. He continually heckled DeVos, yelling “shame” and accusing her of selling out. He also tried to block her SUV as she attempted to leave. He was later detained by police.

Devos, for her part, did not respond to the protesters and kept it professional.

Washington D.C. station WJLA has video of the incident. Devos was later able to enter the school without incident.

Here is video of the incident.

The Betsy DeVos protesters do not seem to realize that their efforts are actually hurting D.C. students. U.S. News and World Report outlined in 2015 how charter schools (which DeVos advocates) are actually improving education for poor minority students. Even though D.C. charter school students tend to be poorer, and are more often a minority, they do far better than students in the D.C. public school system.

These protesters still have yet to realize that they are only turning public opinion against themselves. They are also ensuring a second Donald Trump term in the White House.
