Floral City, FL—a gunman armed with a high-powered rifle just opened fire at a gas pipeline that will be running from Alabama to Florida, according to Fox News.
He was recently killed during a shootout with the Sheriff’s deputies, following a car chase.
Mike Prendergast, the County Sheriff, said that the gunman fired multiple shots from a high-powered rifle at construction equipment being used to build the Sabal Trail pipeline, a natural gas line that will run from Alabama to Florida.
In a statement issued, he says:
“We know that the suspect was armed and extremely dangerous, and pending the examination of the evidence at the scene, we will be able to determine what other weapons he had in his possession at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, none of our Citrus County Deputies, Marion County Deputies or Florida Highway Patrol Troopers were injured as a result of this crime.”
After being caught, the man drove off down the Highway—a car chase ensued, where the Florida Highway Patrol chased him down until he crashed new Floral City, about 70 miles north of Tampa, Florida.
No deputies were hurt and the man’s name has not been released yet.
