NBC’s Lester Holt recently interviewed President Donald Trump, probing him about the recent firing of James Comey, ex-FBI head.
The full interview will be available tonight at 6:30 Eastern Time, but a lot can still be gleamed from this short clip. Trump was very quick to blast Comey for being a “showboat,” and a “grand stander.”
Despite these strong claims, President Trump isn’t alone. Many other high ranking FBI officials have said the same about Comey. In fact, just recently, James Kallstrom, the ex-assistant director of the FBI, said that “[Comey] was fired for cause,” and that he condoned a “fake investigation,” of Hillary Clinton.
Watch the video and read the transcript below for more information:
President Trump: “Look. He’s a showboat, he’s a grand stander. The FBI has been in turmoil. You know that, I know that, everybody knows that. You take a look at the FBI a year ago, it was in virtual turmoil, less than a year ago. It hasn’t recovered from that.”
Lester Holt: “Monday you met with the deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, did you ask for a recommendation?”
President Trump: “What I did, is I was going to fire Comey. It was my decision…”
Lester Holt [interrupting]: “You had made the decision before they came in the room?”
President Trump: “I was going to fire Comey. There’s no good time to do it, by the way, they…”
Lester Holt [interrupting]: “Because in your letter you said that ‘I accepted their recommendation,’ so you had already made the decision?”
President Trump: “Oh, I was going to fire [Comey] regardless of recommendations. He [Rosenstein] made a recommendation, he’s highly respected, very good guy, very smart guy. The Democrats like him, the Republicans like him. He made a recommendation, but regardless of recommendations, I was going to fire Comey.”
The interview seems slightly standoffish, with Mr. Holt interrupting President Trump several times. Our POTUS isn’t irritated, however, and remains quite calm. He sticks to his story, which most of his voters believe, that he was going to fire Comey regardless.
Lester Holt: “Let me ask you about your termination letter to Mr. Comey. You write ‘I greatly appreciate you informing me on 3 separate occasions that I am not under investigation.’ Why did you put that in there?”
President Trump: “Because he told me that, I mean he told me that…”
Lester Holt [repeatedly interrupting him]: “Was it in a phone call, was it face-to-face?”
President Trump: “I had a dinner with him, he wanted to have dinner, because he wanted to stay on. We had a very nice dinner…”
Lester Holt [interrupting again]: “He asked for the dinner?”
President Trump: “Our dinner was arranged, I think he asked for the dinner…and he wanted to stay on as the FBI head, and I said I’ll consider it, we’ll see what happens…”
Lester Holt: “That was one meeting, what were the other two?”
President Trump: “First of all, when you’re under investigation you’re given all sorts of documents and everything, I knew I wasn’t under [investigation]. And, I heard it was stated at the committee that I wasn’t…”
Be sure to watch the full interview, because it’s very telling. The first thing we can glimpse from this interview is that the media COMPLETELY spread the “Trump/Russia,” investigation lie, knowing that it was a lie.
Comey said, according to President Trump, that he was not under investigation three separate times. So why did the media keep spreading the anti-Trump propaganda, claiming that he had been colluding with Russia? This is a question we’d all like the answer to.
