Senator John McCain recently stated that American leadership was actually stronger under one of President Trump’s predecessors, who he is referring to is an assertion that is raising eyebrows.
Being the war hero that John McCain is or not, count this as one more of too many reasons the
senile senior senator from Arizona out to pasture.
From The Hill:
Asked if the country stood on sturdier ground under former President Obama’s leadership, McCain said “yes,” according to the report.
“As far as American leadership is concerned, yes,” said McCain, though he vocally criticized many of the Obama administration’s foreign policy decisions.
McCain also lost to Obama when he ran as the GOP nominee in the 2008 presidential election.
And apparently he’s still bent over about about. We’re not even half a year into Trump’s presidency and we’re already hearing these types of asinine judgement calls from the likes of McCain. It makes you wonder where we would’ve been if he had miraculously won in 2008.
The Arizona Republican was also asked what “message” the president delivered to the U.K. last week when he publicly criticized London’s mayor, shortly after a terror-related attack that left eight people dead and many more wounded.
“What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead,” said McCain, chairman on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
What does that even mean anymore? What is it about American leadership under Obama that has this irrelevant old coot feeling nostalgic. Barack Obama did nothing but apologize for America being a proactive force in the world, which led to the Orwellian sounding “lead from behind” doctrine and a feckless consequence free (for terrorists) foreign policy. How that posture made us stronger is something that only makes sense to people who have none.
Donald Trump’s election was America’s response to Obama’s milquetoast-but-beloved-by-European-socialists leadership. The only thing the left in the west wants to be lead to is slaughter, they don’t need the kind of coddling John McCain apparently pines for, they need honesty.
