The New York Times and CNN’s parent company, Time Warner, have recently decided to sponsor a play that depicts the graphic assassination of President Donald Trump.
The play, which is a Shakespeare in the Park production of the famous “Julius Caesar,” is set in the modern era with Trump as Caesar and first lady Melania as Calpurnia. The production has sparked enormous outrage all across America, with conservatives openly denouncing the play.
“We have sponsored Shakespeare in the Park for 20 years,” the Times said. “As an institution that believes inf ree speech for the arts as well as the media, we support the right of the Public Theater to stage the production as they choose.”
While there’s definitely something to be said for freedom of speech, one can’t help but wonder what would happen if Fox News supported a play that depicted the assassination of Barrack Obama or, God forbid, Hillary Clinton.
When the Left becomes violent when their candidate loses, imagine how they’d react if mainstream conservative news sources put on a play depicting the assassination of their candidate. We’d likely see riots ten fold what Berkeley had.
After conservatives all across the nation began to protest the play, Delta Airlines and Bank of America have removed their funding of the play. NY Daily News reports:
“Delta Airlines and Bank of America pulled out of their sponsorship of New York’s Public Theater on Sunday over a production of ‘Julius Caesar’ that re-imagines the main character as President Trump.”
“Shortly after Delta, who was a four-year sponsor, made its announcement, Bank of America yanked its support as well.”
“The Shakespeare in the Park play tells the story of the leader assassinated by Roman senators over the fear that he’s becoming too tyrannical, but rather than the original setting, the production stages Caesar (Gregg Henry) and his wife, Calpurnia, (Tina Benko) with Donald and Melania Trump lookalikes.”
“Henry, who already played a Trump stand-in on ‘Scandal’ last year, models his Caesar almost perfectly after the man in the Oval Office. He meets his end after being stabbed to death by women and minorities on stage.”
“Benko, similarly, plays Calpurnia with a thick Slavic accent, much like Melania herself.”
Thankfully, Delta Airlines, which donates between $100,000 and $500,000 annually to the production company, has pulled its sponsorship. “No matter what your political stance may be,” a Delta spokesman said, “the graphic staging of Julius Caesar at this summer’s Free Shakespeare in the Park does not reflect Delta Air Lines’ values.”
“We have notified them of their decision to end our sponsorship as the official airline of The Public Theater effective immediately.”
It seems that, with more and more conservatives standing up for their values, companies are beginning to realize that they can’t just haphazardly promote a liberal agenda. For years, we saw liberal crybabies bully conservative companies into submission under the Obama administration.
…but now, with President Trump in office, many conservatives are hoping that things will be different, and they’re beginning to take a stand.
