New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt did an appearance on MSNBC to give an interview to Brian Williams about his report on the Comey memo and what it purports to say.
Schmidt’s report make the unequivocal case that the memo basically states that President Trump was attempting to obstruct justice. From the report:
The documentation of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia. Late Tuesday, Representative Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, demanded that the F.B.I. turn over all “memoranda, notes, summaries and recordings” of discussions between Mr. Trump and Mr. Comey….
Mr. Comey wrote the memo detailing his conversation with the president immediately after the meeting, which took place the day after Mr. Flynn resigned, according to two people who read the memo. It was part of a paper trail Mr. Comey created documenting what he perceived as the president’s improper efforts to influence a continuing investigation. An F.B.I. agent’s contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.
So Schmidt, probably basking in the glow of his own journalist brilliance, goes in for what is probably perceived as a game of softball with Williams. Except when Williams commits an act of journalism.
“Why is it the Times has the story, but not the memo?”
The response is fun, so to speak.
“Well, uh, we’ve been working on, I’ve been working on a story the past few days about the fact that Comey had written these. We thought that that was pretty significant in and of themselves. And then in the process of pushing on those doors this morning, I learned more about one of these memos. And someone that had seen them, recounted details to me. We felt comfortable with those details. We did some diligence on the information and we realized how sensitive that information was and how potentially important it could be. And we moved as potentially as we could…”
For those not fluent in intellectually dishonest liberal media bias here’s a translation of Schmidt’s incoherence: The memo we’ve only heard about confirms our bias against Trump, and because he’s a Republican we decided to run the story with no ACTUAL evidence to support the claims made in it.
Here’s to hoping they produce it, because at the moment this is one hell of a game of chicken they’re playing.
More than anything it’s yet another example of why the country galvanized behind President Trump to defeat Hillary Clinton in the first place. Normal Americans are tired of being lied to and given information with a bias. This story would never have run against Obama with evidence that is literally less than paper thin at this point.
