Chip Gaines, star of the hit HGTV show “Fixer Upper,” has addressed the controversy around his family’s Christian faith.

The liberal media is in an uproar after a BuzzFeed article attempted to portray Chip and his wife Joanna Gaines as homophobes. They attend a church that believes in traditional, Biblical marriage, which drove liberals crazy. However, the Gaines themselves have never spoken on the subject.

Fox News reports on the controversy.

Buzzfeed published an article last Tuesday about the Gaineses pastor Jimmy Seibert who has come out against gay marriage and called homosexuality a “lifestyle” choice and a “sin.”

The media site came under fire for publishing the story which others called an unfair attack on the Gaines and a “non-story” as the couple themselves had not made those remarks.

HGTV told FOX411, “We don’t discriminate against members of the LGBT community in any of our shows. HGTV is proud to have a crystal clear, consistent record of including people from all walks of life in its series.”

While Buzzfeed expected public opinion to sway against the Gaines family, the exact opposite happened. The Gaines family received an outpouring of support. In addition, there were calls to allow the Gaines to hold a belief that is central to their faith.

The Gaines have refused to address the controversy directly, but it doesn’t seem to affect their popularity of their ratings. “Fixer Upper” remains the most popular show on HGTV, and in addition, is one of the highest-rated shows on cable. Also, the Gaines themselves have been credited with single-handedly reviving Waco as a destination town in Texas.

“Fixer Upper” airs on Tuesday nights on HGTV.
