Tired of being unjustifiably called “Commiefornia” California is looking to repeal the ban on communist state employees.
That seems like a solid proposal, as the law currently stands it’s obvious that it doesn’t get enforced since most of the state government would be fired if it were. Like with their stance on immigration this is probably more designed to allow state employees to come out of the shadows.
From the Sacramento Bee:
Being a communist would no longer be a fireable offense for California government employees under a bill passed Monday by the state Assembly.
Lawmakers narrowly approved the bill to repeal part of a law enacted during the Red Scare of the 1940s and ’50s when fear that communists were trying to infiltrate and overthrow the U.S. government was rampant. The bill now goes to the Senate.
It would eliminate part of the law that allows public employees to be fired for being a member of the Communist Party.
Employees could still be fired for being members of organizations they know advocate for overthrowing the government by force or violence.
Organizations that advocate violent revolution…like, say, THE COMMUNIST PARTY?!?
The next line should be a real shocker, or not…
The bill updates an outdated provision in state law, said Assemblyman Rob Bonta, the San Francisco Bay Area Democrat who authored the measure.
Why is the provision considered to be an “outdated” one? Because the Soviet Union is gone? As stated previously the entire impetus that drives communism is an overthrow and taking control of the system it lives in, especially if that system has other “outdated” notions such as private property, and individual rights. That’s a feature of communism, not a bug. People who think this way shouldn’t be put in positions that allow them to sabotage the system.
In any case, given the direction the state is headed in it’s all kind of moot, this bill is something of a formality by now.
What are the odds that Rep. Bonta himself is some level of commie? If you’ve ever been to San Francisco then you’d know it’s pretty darn high. Democrats are the conservatives in that town.
Given the communist-dictatorship-esque disparity in lifestyle and income due to out of control costs of living (partly from the crazy disparity in housing supply and demand – which only the uber rich can even begin to afford – and partly because of taxes, regulation) should we really be taking cues on how to do anything in western civilization from the city of San Francisco? At this point they really should just be allowed to be their own foreign country. Calexit may have failed, but that doesn’t mean SF shouldn’t try again, I’d sign that petition.
