When I was in school for art (I’m a professional commercial artist) I remember thinking how difficult it was to understand and keep up with what was going on in classes and forums that analyzed modern art. I would read, and reread, and reread, class texts by artists over and over because I wasn’t understanding what I was reading. The sentences just didn’t seem coherent
I’m a reasonably intelligent person, so I eventually came to the conclusion that I wasn’t the one with the problem, it was them.
Once I accepted that I started to see the art world for what it actually is…a huge, disgusting, steaming pile of bullshit. It’s no coincidence that the art world is so overwhelmingly liberal given this truth.
Don’t get me wrong, there is A LOT of really great art being produced today. What I’m talking about is the a-holes who poke a hole in a coffee cup, draw a happy face next to it and then come up with a five-paragraph essay on its meaning and significance. Like a man drowning in a mid-life crisis and buying a big flashy sports car “artists” who do this are overcompensating due the sheer stupidity of their “work.”
Modern art, the stuff that makes no sense, is mostly a big fraud. If you see something and you don’t get it (because there’s nothing to get) while others seem to, don’t worry, those idiots are just acting like they do.
I was in my 20’s before I figured this out, so the 17 year old in this story has my utmost respect for what he did at an art gallery in San Francisco.
From The Daily Mail
A teenage prankster has fooled scores of art lovers into believing his glasses were a modern masterpiece in a hilarious stunt at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
TJ Khayatan, 17, was visiting the gallery with friends on Monday when he said he was left unimpressed by some of the modern art on display. He even described one lackluster exhibit as little more than a ‘stuffed animal on a gray blanket’.
‘(We) questioned if this was really impressive to some of the nearby people,’ he told Buzzfeed News
Khayatan decided to put art lovers to the test.
He wanted to discover whether the artworks in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art really were misunderstood masterpieces, or whether almost anything on display in the gallery could be lauded as modern art.
So he put his glasses on the floor and made it look like it was one of the pieces on exhibit…
Khayatan, who captured the public’s response on camera, later uploaded the pictures to Twitter where they almost instantly went viral.
and the idiots ATE IT UP.
The photos have already been shared more than 40,000 times since they were posted yesterday and were eventually listed as a ‘Twitter Moment’.
Many online praised the prank as ‘hilarious’, while others said it highlighted the problem with modern art with one user tweeting: ‘Modern art is f***ing stupid but it’s a perfect scam to gain money from idiots.’
