This former Obama cabinet member JUST ENDORSED Tillerson for Sec. of State!

Rex Tillerson endorsement

It’s not every day that a former member of President Barack Obama’s cabinet endorses one of President Elect Trump’s cabinet selections. The Rex Tillerson endorsement for Secretary of State will likely drive the current President nuts, however. So let’s just savor it.

Robert Gates, who served as President Obama’s Defense Secretary from 2009 to 2011, endorsed the selection of Tillerson as Secretary of State in a statement released Tuesday.

Tillerson, the CEO of ExxonMobil, has been widely praised by the business community as a solid choice. Some Democrats are upset over Exxon’s ties to Russia, which they think will overshadow Tillerson’s work. In addition, Tillerson has extensive civic experience, serving as the head of the Boy Scouts. He also served on the board of directors of the United Negro College Fund.

Here is Gates’ statement.

I strongly endorse the President-elect’s selection of Rex Tillerson to be the next Secretary of State. He would bring to the position vast knowledge, experience and success in dealing with dozens of governments and leaders in every corner of the world. He is a person of great integrity whose only goal in office would be to protect and advance the interests of the United States.

President Elect Trump’s official transition Twitter account even tweeted out this graphic of the statement.

Rex Tillerson endorsement

Gates is a holdover from the previous Bush administration, however, he became a trusted member of the Obama cabinet. In fact, Time Magazine reported that he and Hillary Clinton (who was serving as Secretary of State at the time) formed a “formidable partnership.” They also regularly worked together in the Obama administration. In addition, they reportedly met once a week for lunch and coordinated their efforts.

In addition, according to CNN, former Secretaries of State James Baker and Condoleezza Rice also recommended Tillerson.
