People like Chuck Schumer still haven’t figured out that the internet is forever and that today’s “principled stand” is tomorrow’s showcase of hypocrisy.
Here he is saying George W. Bush must not be allowed to have any further nominations to the Supreme Court considered on a purely partisan and ideological basis.
If they have a right to do it then so do we. With Scalia in the majority basic freedoms guaranteed under the Bill of Rights have been upheld by a 5-4 vote (with liberals being the four to vote against them, of course). The difference between Schumer shortsighted and partisan diatribe and what this post is saying now is this next Supreme Court justice must be one who will preserve the greatness of the American experiment rather than present an existential threat to it.
The GOP has to win this fight, because no other fights will matter if they lose this one.
Democratic leader Senator Chuck Schumer said in July 2007 that no George W. Bush nominee to the Supreme Court should be approved, 19 months before a new president was set to be inaugurated.
