A prominent liberal is already sounding the bell for Democrats that Trump has a better than even chance to win a bid for reelection in 2020.
Michael Bloomberg recently told Frank Bruni of the New York Times that Trump will win reelection for the same reason he in 2016. The Democrats simply don’t have their act together.
From The Hill
Hillary said, ‘Vote for me because I’m a woman and the other guy’s bad,’ ” Bloomberg said about 2016.
He said Democrats are still looking for issues and messages. And he worries that too many Democrats are eager to jump into the 2020 race.
“They’ll step on each other and re-elect Donald Trump,” Bloomberg said.
Last month CNN reported that there are 22 potential Democrat 2020 contenders being talked about now. That obviously doesn’t mean all of them are serious. In fact I would say half are long shots for a long shot (Mark Zuckerberg is on their list for pete’s sake). That said, Bloomberg is right on that too many challengers divides too much and provides too much disunity in the party.
The more important problem for Democrats is that their opposition to Trump is fueled by unbridled hate and knee-jerk opposition to anything he says. We are at a point where if Trump says the sky is blue liberals would say it’s a sign he’s racist against Smurfs.
People will only get wiser to this, as Trump and his staff have demonstrated in a short time that they’re simply not going to put up with the left’s hypocrisy and dishonesty the way Republicans traditionally do. (Remember Sean Spicer from last week?)
If Democrats want a snowballs chance in hell of beating Trump they’re going to have to put the animals they unleashed to violently beat down Trump supporters back in their cage. Then, they need to come up with some original thoughts and ideas to counter his positions.
For instance, telling people that tamping down on immigration from the Middle East is racist when that’s where all of the terrorism against western civilization is coming from isn’t going to cut it for normal Americans. They have enough sense to know where Trump is coming from in spite of the left’s demagoguery on the issue.
Also, as a word to the not so wise ANTIFA-types, my children throw temper tantrums when they don’t get what they want. It doesn’t work, ever. So watching 20 year-olds wearing masks, breaking windows with bats, and screaming “F**K TRUMP” to the faces of parents holding small children are all extremely unpersuasive arguments for voting Democrat.
Democrats need to find adult ways to respond to Trump’s policies if they want to be taken seriously.
If not, then Bloomberg’s prediction of Trump’s reelection will assuredly come true.
