The war in Syria rages on, despite a recent ceasefire negotiated by President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Government troops, who prop up the regime of Bashar al-Assad, claim to be fighting ISIS, but they are also taking aim at Syrian civilians. A video posted online shows how rebels fighting for a free Syria are using TOW missiles to fight back.
TOW (tube-launched, optically-tracked, wireless-guided) anti-tank missiles have found their way into the hands of many rebels in Syria. Although it has not been confirmed, some military experts believe the U.S. government may have helped get some of these missiles into the hands of rebels to use against Syrian troops. With innocent civilians often targeted by Syrian tanks, the TOW missiles have helped level the playing field. In a pinch, they even help take out groups of soldiers about to use mortars on their own people.
Syrian troops have been responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. The massacre in Aleppo was only one of the many atrocities being committed by Syrian troops, but word of what is happening over there rarely gets reported by the media.
President Donald Trump has taken aggressive action against the Syrian government, bombing an air base being used by government troops, as well as shooting down a Syrian jet. The Russians, who are supporting the Syrian army, have been angered by President Trump’s actions.
The video shows a rebel fighter firing a TOW missile at a group of soldiers clustered around a mortar set-up. There is some confusion as to who is firing the missile. Some believe it is ISIS or an ISIS sympathizer, but the flag and symbolism on the video seems to indicate they are with the Free Syria army.
