President Obama and Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton rested while Donald Trump took a trip to flood-ravaged Baton Rouge Louisiana on Friday to distribute supplies to those affected by the natural disaster.
One Louisiana flood survivor broke down in tears after explaining what Trump’s arrival meant to him. Newly-elected Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards, however, criticized Trump’s visit.
“We welcome him to LA but not for a photo-op,” Edwards’ spokesman said of Trump. “Instead we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of the storm.”
Trump didn’t just show up for a “photo-op.” He donated $100,000 to a local Baton Rouge church and brought an 18-wheeler transfer truck full of supplies to help people in need in addition to visiting victims of the flood with his running mate Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
One day after Edwards ripped Trump, the governor is praised the GOP nominee and Pence for their “helpful” visit during the state’s difficult time.
The governor of Louisiana said Sunday that Donald Trump’s trip to his state was “helpful” in getting the country’s attention on the devastating flooding around Baton Rouge.
Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, had released a statement before the GOP nominee’s visit decrying a “photo-op,” but Edwards told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” Sunday that Trump had always been welcome if he were coming to be “helpful.”
“Because it helped to shine a spotlight on Louisiana and on the dire situation that we have here … it was helpful,” Edwards said.
He also praised Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who joined the visit.
Any news as to how much the Clinton foundation contributed to any organization in Baton Rouge to help the people down there?
