At a time when President Donald Trump is being falsely accused of fostering violence and making excuses for violent Nazi extremists, his political opponents are openly calling for his assassination. In the ultimate example of hypocrisy, these threats of murder receive little attention from the media and no reprimand from other Democrats.
A Missouri state senator took to Facebook to say that she hopes President Donald Trump is assassinated. Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, who represents District 14 (Univeristy City, in the St. Louis area), confirmed to a local news reporter that she did author a post which said: “I hope Trump is assassinated!”
Chuck Ross of The Daily Caller has more.
She made the comment in an exchange with a left-wing activist who claimed that his cousin is a Secret Service agent.
Chappelle-Nadal confirmed to a reporter with St. Louis TV station KMOX that she posted the comment.
“I put something up on my personal Facebook page and it has now been deleted,” she said.
A little background on Chappelle-Nadal provides some insight as to why she would make such an outrageous statement. She is a former member of the Democratic National Committee, and was a superdelegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. She was one of the few elected officials to take part in the street protests over the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. She was even teargassed by police when the protests turned violent. She was highly critical of the police response to the shooting and the protests that followed.
According to Wikipedia, Chappele-Nadal spoke of race relations and social justice in a recent interview.
Chappelle-Nadal acknowledged that institutional inequality is a major issue underpinning the unrest in Ferguson, contributing to tensions between police and an angered community: “I have to tell you that there has been systematic racism, institutionally in state government for decades, including my own state party,” she said. “People are angry, and they are hurt, and they’re trying to figure out: how are they going to receive justice?”
Here is a screenshot of the now-deleted post.
With the threat getting so little attention from both the media and other Democrats, it seems likely that Chappelle-Nadal will never have to answer for it.
