BREAKING: ABC Cancels ‘Roseanne’ Reboot Over ‘Racially Insensitive’ Tweet

ABC has pulled the plug on the hit reboot of the classic comedy “Roseanne,” after star Roseanne Barr inexplicably posted a racist tweet Tuesday morning.

In a Twitter storm early Tuesday, Roseanne went off on a number of people, including former first daughter Chelsea Clinton. It was her tweet about for aide to President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, that earned ABC’s wrath. In it, Barr compared Jarrett’s looks to an ape while comparing her to a terrorist. She invoked both the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes in the tweet. The tweet was deleted, but a screenshot is included below.

ABC has pulled the plug on the revival “Roseanne.”

The move comes after series star Roseanne Barr made a comment on Twitter Tuesday morning referring to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as the “offspring of the ‘Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.’”

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Barr deleted her tweet about Jarrett not long after posting it. She followed it up with an apology which read, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”

The revival of the classic sitcom was set to air a 13-episode eleventh season this fall.

The deleted tweet was part of a conversation about Obama that shifted to Jarrett. Here is a screenshot.
