An arsonist has targeted the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although authorities have not yet said the fire was politically motivated, the incident follows a string of angry protests at Trump Hotels nationwide.
The suspect doesn’t appear to be very bright – he reportedly used toasters and towels to start the fire.
A suspected arsonist has been arrested after two separate fires broke out at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas yesterday, injuring one person.
Clark County Fire Department said toasters and towels were used to ignite the fires at the hotel.
One blaze was located in the women’s restroom, on the pool deck level, and the other was in the hallway on the 17th floor.
A county spokesman said a hotel security guard was injured when he tackled one of the blazes.
Metropolitan Police Department Lieutenant Steve Summers told the Las Vegas Review-Journal a man was in custody facing charges of first-degree arson and burglary.
Lt Summers said last night the fire did not appear to be politically motivated ‘on the surface’ but he said it was too early to be sure and the investigation was ongoing.
Fire Department spokesman John Steinbeck said ‘multiple devices’ were placed in various locations with deliberate intent to start fires.
KTNV reporter Tom George tweeted a picture of the crime scene and wrote: ‘Looked like man stuffed towels in toasters, first fire in women’s bathroom at pooldeck, then another on 17th floor.’
Protests at Trump hotels and resorts have been common since the election. Protesters usually assemble whenever the President visits the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Last week, a group of Native American activists announced they would be protesting at the Trump Hotel in Washington, D.C. against the President’s energy policies.
