Sean Spicer has resigned as White House press secretary, the Associated Press has reported.
The resignation came this morning, and was not a surprise to many. Spicer had a brief but embattled tenure as press secretary, as he handled an increasingly hostile press corps. He also had to deal with responding to President Trump’s many off-the-cuff tweets, which is difficult to do in a job that requires careful responses for a vindictive media.
In recent weeks, Spicer’s presence in the press room was limited, as Sarah Huckabee Sanders often filled in.
According to Fox News, the resignation comes as Trump booster and Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci was rumored to be on the role of White House communications director.
It is unclear if Scaramucci or Sanders or a third person would be the new permanent face in the press room.
This is a developing story. Details will be added as they become available.
