BREAKING: Train Carrying GOP Members of Congress Crashes Into a Dump Truck – Here Are The Latest Details

This is a developing story.

A train traveling to West Virginia carrying Republican members of Congress to a retreat has been involved in an accident.

The train was transporting Republicans members of Congress to the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia, but hit a dump truck carrying garbage in Virginia, near Charlottesville.

UPDATE: 11:30 a.m. CST – The lead engine on the train dislodged from the track, but the train itself did not derail. The train detached from the damaged lead engine and a secondary engine is taking the congressional members back to the previous station.

UPDATE: 11:05 a.m. One fatality has been confirmed in the accident. The identity of the deceased person has not been released. Media reports say witnesses saw a body on the ground outside of the train at the crash site.

ORIGINAL STORY: First details say the train hit a dump truck that was possibly stuck on the tracks. An image tweeted out by a reporter is showing a destroyed truck.

Some reports say there are minor injuries so far. However, it appears the driver of the truck may be seriously injured and is being tended to by first responders.

House Speaker Paul Ryan was reportedly on the train. However, not all members of Congress were on the train. Some spouses of the Congressional members were also on the train.

Rep. Jeff Denham (CA) tweeted out a picture of the front of the train, showing significant damage.

Rep. Don Baker tweeted out that he is OK.

Sen. James Lankford (OK) tweeted out an update as well.

No other civilians outside of the congressional delegation were known to be on the train.
