Chelsea Clinton Tweeted New Year’s Greetings to the Church of Satan, and We’re Not Joking

Chelsea Clinton

2018 is already shaping up to be a strange year.

Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton’s frequent use of Twitter backfired yesterday, after she tweeted wishes for a Happy New Year to the Church of Satan.

After Clinton once again inserted herself into a online discussion with a famous person, she was tagged in an ongoing thread that included model/actress Chrissy Teigen, a Hooter’s restaurant, and the official Twitter account for the Devil’s denomination.

Clinton did not appear to realize the tag would be visible in her replies, and when she attempted to send Teigen New Year’s greetings, this happened:

Yes, you saw that right – the Church of Satan even responded with good wishes in return, which makes you wonder how good they are at this whole “devil worship” thing if they are wishing people a happy new year.

The entire conversation started when someone attempted to link Teigen and her child to the debunked Pizzagate child abuse conspiracy. Teigen, as one would expect, took offense.

After someone pretending to be a Hooter’s restaurant started responding to her tweets, the official Hooter’s account was tagged in the conversation. Clinton then joked that someone once tagged The Church of Satan in a response to her tweets, and that caused the official account of the Satanists to be tagged.

When Clinton then sent Teigen the New Year’s greetings, the Church of Satan was shown as one of the people she was responding to.

While everyone involved seemed to make light of the exchange, Clinton’s critics couldn’t help pouncing on the opportunity. Internet gold ensued.

There were also the obligatory puns.

It didn’t take long for this obvious joke to surface.

This response summed it up perfectly.
