Detroit Firefighter TERMINATED After Bringing “Racist Watermelon” to Work

The far left is always looking for an excuse to play the victim card, whether it’s racism, sexism, transphobism, or any other “ism” which they’ve recently invented. After a hard-working Detroit firefighter was axed after bringing in a watermelon to work however, many believe the left has gone too far.

Robert Pattinson, a 41 year old firefighter, introduced himself to his fellow firefighters at Engine 55 by bringing in a welcome gift, according to Fox 2 Detroit. Second Battalion Chief Shawn McCarty called the welcome gift “a tradition” for Engine 55’s firefighters, and noted that while the usual gift is donuts, you’re allowed to bring whatever you want to bring in.

Breitbart reports that Pattison wanted to stand out by bringing in a watermelon with a pink bow tied on top, but apparently the snowflake firefighters thought this was too “racially insensitive,” so they fired him.

Some black firefighters were reportedly offended by Pattison’s gesture since 90 percent of the firefighters at Engine 55 are black.

“When you get your first detail at a firehouse you pretty much know what you are getting yourself into,” said Patrick Trout. “So you would have to say it was probably a bad call.”

McCarty said that some people at the firehouse claim it is “racially insensitive” to bring a watermelon to a firehouse.

Pattison argued that he did not bring in the watermelon as a joke and had no intention of offending his colleagues.

Fire Commissioner Eric Jones said in a statement that Pattinson was officially discharged for “discriminatory behavior,” despite Pattinson arguing that he did not bring the watermelon in as a joke and had zero intention of offending his colleagues. The Commissioner’s statement can be seen below:

There is zero tolerance for discriminatory behavior inside the Detroit Fire Department.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at Engine 55, a trial firefighter (probationary employee) engaged in unsatisfactory work behavior which was deemed offensive and racially insensitive to members of the Detroit Fire Department. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the best course of action was to terminate the employment of this probationary employee.

While most Americans think this is absolutely ridiculous, of course there’s been several far left outlets that have praised the firefighters for their “noble decision” to fire this man over gifting a watermelon. Huffington Post for example, wrote an extensive post entitled “African Americans and the Watermelon Stereotype.”

The record of watermelon’s role in racism is well-chronicled. As Keith Woods of the Poynter Institute fashioned it, “since the earliest days of plantation slavery, the caricature of the dark-skinned black child, his too-red lips stretched to grotesque extremes as they opened to chomp down on watermelon, was a staple of racism’s diet.

Over time, the watermelon became a symbol of the broader denigration of black people.”

Orwellian creep is a very real phenomena, and unfortunately many Americans seem unaware to its influence. Ever so slowly, the liberals in our government begin to infiltrate every aspect of our society, until before we know it you can be fired for bringing in a simple fruit as a gift.

While the Watermelon has certainly been a symbol of racism in the past, many believe it’s time we let the past go. Second Battalion Chief Shawn McCarty didn’t think that Pattison should have lost his job over a watermelon, claiming that there could have been “a few things that could have been done,” before firing him. What do you think?
