Failing NY Times Edits Headline to Comply with Liberals Complaining on Twitter

Just in case you were not convinced journalism is dead; on Wednesday, the New York Times edits a previously published headline to comply with outraged liberals who were unhappy with the unbiased coverage. The first headline to the article, focused on President Trump’s allegation that former National Security Adviser Susan Rice committed a crime by ‘unmasking’ senior Trump aides.

Here is a screenshot of the two headlines, with the original on top, and the altered one just below.

Let’s take a closer look at the original headline. It read:

“Trump Says Susan Rice May Have Committed a Crime.” This is exactly right.  Susan Rice might have committed a crime by unmasking citizens names for political gain.

As you can see, liberals and democrats attacked the headline on twitter.

The New York Times then bowed to liberal pressure changed the headline. The New York Times eventually edited the headline to read as follows:

“Trump, Citing No Evidence, Suggests Susan Rice Committed Crime.”

The New York Times has not stated why the headline was changed, nor has it even acknowledged the change. The online article does state that the article, with the altered headline, ran in the print version of the Times on April 6.

A New Author

Strangely, a new author has been added to the article as of April 6. Matthew Rosenberg is now listed in the byline. With an original version of the article now unavailable, it is unclear what Rosenberg added to the article. However, the article does push the talking point that President Trump’s statement is an unproven allegation. It cites a previous example, and points out that the story is mostly being pushed by conservative media.

It is not the first time Mr. Trump has made a provocative allegation without providing supporting evidence. One of the most notorious instances of this was his years-long claim that Mr. Obama was not born in the United States.

Like his statements about Mr. Obama — which he walked away from late in the 2016 presidential campaign — Mr. Trump’s claims about Ms. Rice have taken hold in the conservative news media, where she has been a target ever since her press appearances after the terrorist attack on a diplomatic outpost in Libya in September 2012.

The article ends with Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff, who issues a slam against the President.

Representative Adam Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, cast Mr. Trump’s comments as part of a broader effort by the president to distract from the investigations into Russia’s interference in the election. The committee is running one of the investigations.

“He began by accusing President Obama of a crime without any evidence,” Mr. Schiff said. “He’s now moved on to accusing Susan Rice of a crime without any evidence, and this is sadly how this president operates.”

It “would be a terrible way to do business,” Mr. Schiff added. “It’s a worse way to run a country.”
