Greg Popovich

One of the NBA’s most popular coaches has gone out of his way to slam President Trump, calling him “embarrassing.” The comments came with the added glare of the press coverage of the NBA Conference Finals.

The coach is Greg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs, who is usually soft-spoken and insightful in his public comments. His is among one of the more respected coaches in the NBA. That, however, will likely change with these new comments. It is not his first time criticizing the President. He has been quite vocal in his disdain for Trump.

On Sunday, prior to Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Popovich held the traditional pre-game conference. It didn’t take him long to come around to talking about the President, even though the questions were not about Trump.

Among his comments were these.

Usually, things happen in the world and you go to work and you’ve got your family and you’ve got your friend and you do what you do. But to this day I feel like there’s a cloud, a pall, over the whole country, in a paranoid surreal sort of way that’s got nothing to do with the Democrats losing the election.

It’s got to do with the way one individual conducts himself. It’s embarrassing. It’s dangerous to our institutions and what we all stand for and what we expect the country to be. But for this individual, he’s at a game show and everything that happens begins and ends with him, not our people or our country.

Everything that happens begins and ends with him — not our people or our country. Every time he talks about those things that’s just a ruse — that’s just disingenuous, cynical and fake.

Here is the video of his comments.

Greg Popopvich and his San Antonio Spurs are currently down two games to none to the Golden State Warriors.
