Chelsea Clinton is just like mother – she doesn’t know when to go away. The former First Daughter has not only been active on Twitter, she has been speaking around the country and writing a new book to lead the “Resistance.”
As part of her promotional tour for her new book, Clinton has chimed in on the President, which is no surprise. She claimed Trump is “mainstreaming hate,” and even blames him on the rise in school bullying. She even called on people in Britan to protest Trump when he visits the country.
In perhaps the most ironic statement, she calls the Trump administration “corrupt,” which Clinton critics may find laughable considering the number of scandals the Clinton family has endured, even out of office, which enveloped the Clinton Foundation and Chelsea herself.
The daughter of former president Bill Clinton and former senator Hillary Clinton discussed Trump in an interview with The Guardian while promoting her new book She Persisted Around the World.
Chelsea Clinton briefly discussed Trump’s planned visit to Britain in July.
“I’ve been to multiple protests since the election,” she said. “If I lived in Britain I would show up to protest, because I don’t agree with what he’s doing to degrade what it means to be an American.”
Clinton said she believes that many of Trump’s appointees were not qualified for their jobs.
“Not only do I want an administration that isn’t venal, corrupt and focused on making life harder for millions of Americans, I also want a competent administration,” she said. “So for me, the larger question is the collision of cruelty and incompetence and corruption that we see across the administration.”
Trump on Sunday was tweeting a lack of affection for Chelsea’s mother.
“Why didn’t the 13 Angry Democrats investigate the campaign of Crooked Hillary Clinton, many crimes, much Collusion with Russia?” Trump tweeted. “Why didn’t the FBI take the Server from the DNC? Rigged Investigation!”
Chelsea Clinton told The Guardian the Trump administration “not only mainstreamed hate, but mainlined it.” And she blamed a rise in school bullying, as cited by the by the Southern Poverty Law Center, on an atmosphere created and encouraged by Trump.
“Thousands of instances in schools across America, where children are citing the president as they’re demeaning a little girl, or they’re chanting ‘Build a wall’ in an attempt to demean and degrade brown children,” Clinton told The Guardian. “I think those of us who have platforms … have to say this is wrong and unacceptable, so we don’t normalize it but try to detoxify what has been unleashed.”
Surprisingly, however, she directed some venom toward her former friend Ivanka Trump. Clinton took her former bestie to task to working in her father administration, accusing her of emboldening his policies.
Chelsea spoke with The Guardian’s Decca Aitkenhead on a number of topics while doing press for a new children’s book she wrote. She Persisted Around The World is a global follow-up to her best-selling feminist book on prominent women in U.S. history. In the interview, Chelsea explored many political topics of the day, but when it came to Ivanka and whether she deserves sympathy for doing whatever her father wants, Chelsea’s expression hardened, Aitkenhead wrote. The former first daughter said:
“She’s an adult,” Clinton said. “She can make the choices for herself. I mean, she’s 36. We are responsible for our choices. In 2008 I was really proud to support my mum – but I disagreed with her fundamentally on a few things, particularly her then opposition to equal marriage rights for LGBTQ Americans. I never defended that position, because it wasn’t what I believed was the right thing to do.”
