A photo depicting a Satanic drag queen reading to small children at Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library in Long Beach, CA, sparked national outrage after it went viral on social media.

The event was part of the Long Beach Library System’s celebration of “LGBTQ History Month” and “National Coming Out Day.”

A Facebook event page was specifically noted that the “workshop” was “kid friendly,” but many comments on social media question why any responsible parent would bring their child into the presence of such a disturbing display.

Xochi Mochi’s Twitter bio advertises itself as “your resident killer Klown from outer space,” and links to a Tumblr blog which is extremely graphic, packed with nightmarish images, graphic homosexual pornography, and all manner of disturbing content.

Long Beach Public Library has since deleted the photograph from its social media pages, issuing the following explanation –

The storytime was very well attended, with 60-70 people in attendance. Unfortunately, the social media post the City of Long Beach Public Library shared to celebrate LBGTQ History Month received several hateful and harmful comments to the LGBTQ community, mostly from those outside of Long Beach, and ultimately the City decided to remove the post as it was no longer a productive conversation.

The Long Beach Public Library will continue to host events that celebrate the rich diversity of our City and all its residents.

The Church of Satan took notice of the viral image, tweeting their support for Xochi Mochi in response to a concerned user.

There are many troubling elements to this story – not the least of which is that this occurred in a taxpayer-funded space.
