The Carolina Panthers are up for sale – and one of the biggest, richest names in hip hop wants to buy it and give Colin Kaepernick a job.
Kaepernick has been out of a job since he left the San Francisco 49ers last season. He has expressed a desire to continue playing, but his poor play the past two seasons and the political baggage of his National Anthem protests make him an unpopular choice for NFL teams that need a quarterback.
That all could change of rap artist Sean “Diddy” Combs follows through with his intentions to buy the Panthers. If Combs does give Kaepernick a shot, he would have to unseat Cam Newton, one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
Combs will need some help if he wants to buy the team. Although he is worth hundreds of millions, the Panthers are worth close to a billion dollars, so he’ll have to borrow a few bucks.

Hip hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs said he hopes to buy the Carolina Panthers so he can sign Colin Kaepernick after the team’s current owner announced he will sell the franchise amid sexual misconduct allegations.
“I would like to buy the @Panthers. Spread the word. Retweet!” Combs wrote on Twitter Sunday evening, noting that he could become the NFL’s first majority African-American owner. “There are no majority African-American NFL owners. Let’s make history.”
Combs repeated his interest later on Instagram and pledged to sign Kaepernick. He said he would let the former 49ers quarterback compete with Cam Newton for the starting position.
“I will immediately address the Colin Kaepernick situation and put him in the running for next year’s starting quarterback,” Diddy said in a video. “It’s just competition, baby. It’s just competition”
Diddy’s interest in buying the Panthers comes after its current owner, Jerry Richardson, decided to sell the team following sexual and racist misconduct accusations.
Richardson wrote in the open letter: “I believe it is time to turn the franchise over to new ownership. Therefore, I will put the team up for sale at the conclusion of the NFL season.” The letter did not address the allegations.
But despite Diddy’s desires, he might come into problems buying the team. According to The New York Daily News, the Panthers team is worth $120 million more than the mogul’s total net value. NFL teams also normally sell for more than their reported value.
According to the New York Post, Kaepernick doesn’t just want to play for an NFL team, he wants to own one.
After Diddy said Sunday night he wants to buy the Carolina Panthers, which Jerry Richardson has decided to sell amid allegations of his misconduct, Kaepernick said he wants a stake.
“I want in on the ownership group!” Kaepernick wrote Monday. “Let’s make it happen!”
The as-of-now theoretical ownership group also would include Warriors star Stephen Curry, who said, “I want in!” for ownership of his favorite football team.
The Panthers won’t be sold until after the football season, Richardson said Sunday, as the only owner the franchise has ever known is jumping ship during an NFL investigation into his behavior. According to Sports Illustrated, he has reached settlements with at least four former Panthers employees, who include one scout who alleges Richardson slurred him, while many female employees have said Richardson sexually harassed them.
Here is Kaepernick’s tweet announcing his desire to join the potential Panthers’ ownership group.
