One of the more experienced legal minds in the United States House of Representatives believes former Obama National Security Advisor Susan Rice should face federal criminal charges over the “unmasking” of names tied to Donald Trump in U.S. intelligence reports.
Two weeks ago, Rice denied knowing anything about the government spying on Donald Trump. She also said she had no idea what House intelligence committee chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) was talking about when he mentioned the “unmasking” of names in the intelligence reports. She made this denial, even when she knew that Nunes was likely aware that she personally unmasked the names.
In an interview with Lou Dobbs on Fox Business Network, DeSantis addressed whether Rice committed a crime at all. As part of her duties, Rice could regularly request to see the names of American citizens contained in intelligence reports. Those names are usually “masked” if they are not suspected of any wrongdoing. Rice is now accused of “unmasking” names of Trump associates in intelligence reports, thereby making those names available to various government agencies and political officials. Those individuals could then “leak” the names, in an effort to embarrass the person named, or President Trump by association.
“Even if there’s not a statue that specifically prohibits that, if that conduct is the case, that is an abuse of power,” DeSantis said to Dobbs.
In another interview, with Trish Regan of “The Intelligence Report” on Fox Business, DeSantis addressed the possibility of Susan Rice criminal charges being filed. “She said intelligence wasn’t used for political purposes. We know that’s false. There were a number of leaks of classified information involving U.S. persons including Michael Flynn that are illegal,” he said. “I think she dug herself more of a hole because two weeks ago she said she never heard of any type of unmasking.”

Ron DeSantis was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2013. He represents the 6th district and is known as one of the more conservative members of the House. He is also a member of the Freedom Caucus.
DeSantis’ legal background gives him a unique authority to comment on the Rice situation. The Yale graduate earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and served as a J.A.G. (Judge Advocate General) in the United States Navy. He was a military prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, where he worked directly with terrorist detainees. He also served as a legal advisor on the ground in Fallujah, Iraq with SEAL Team One. The man knows the law and the judicial process. When he says Susan Rice should face federal criminal charges, he knows what he is talking about.
For her part, Susan Rice has yet to comment further on the explosive new allegations.
