The Woman Who Beat a Mexican Man Was Not the Trump Supporter the Media Hoped She Was

Mexican man beaten

The woman under arrest for beating an elderly Mexican man with a brick and told him to go back to Mexico is hardly the Trump supporter she was built up to be.

Laquisha Jones (pictured above) is under arrest after she was caught on video beating 92-year-old Rodolfo Rodriquez with a concrete brick. Police are also seeking four black men who joined in on the beating with her.

After word of the beating first hit the news, it was usually reported with the sidebar that President Trump’s speeches and policy create a toxic racial atmosphere in America. While the suspect was initially not identified, many assumed it was a pro-Wall Trump supporter, especially given the circumstances.

A witness told police (and the media) that the suspect allegedly told Rodriquez to “go back to your country” as he was beaten. Rodriquez is from Mexico, but is a legal permanent resident of the U.S., a status one achieves on the path to citizenship.

After it was discovered that the suspect was black, however, the racist narrative disappeared. In fact, the incident raised an inconvenient truth: that black people can indeed be racist towards others.

Race, however, still seems to be an issue. Even though Jones reportedly told Rodriquez to “go back to your country,” the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department announced suddenly that they are not pursuing this as a hate crime.

The Root, a left-wing news site focusing on the black community, at first tried to tie the incident to Trump rhetoric, only to backtrack when the truth was discovered. Commenters on the website now admit the situation has turned problematic.

Jones is now facing attempted murder charges, and the four accomplices are still being sought.

The Root reports.

The attack, which took place July 4 as Rodriguez took his regular walk around his Los Angeles neighborhood, was sparked because Rodriguez accidentally bumped into Jones’ toddler, according to a witness.

After allegedly being shoved and beaten on the ground by Jones, four more men attacked Rodriguez while he was down, witnesses say.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department say they have no motive yet for the attack, and are still investigating whether others were involved. Jones’ bail has been set for $200,000.

The evening of July 4, Rodolfo Rodriguez did what he does on most evenings: take a stroll around his neighborhood. Instead, after allegedly bumping into a small child on his walk, the 92-year-old Mexican man was beaten with a brick and jumped by a group of attackers, all while being told to “go back to [his] own country.”

Many are asking why black activists like Shaun King, who highlight every incident of racism in our culture, are now silent.

Actually, King DID tweet about it, but deleted the tweet minutes after, once he discovered the suspect was black. Someone, however, took a screenshot.

As KTLA reports, Rodriguez was on his regular 8 p.m. walk around his Los Angeles neighborhood when he bumped into a toddler while trying to pass her on the sidewalk, according to Rodriguez’s family.

In response, police say, the child’s mother shoved Rodriguez to the ground and began beating him with a brick.

KCBS spoke to a witness who stopped to call the police and recorded the beating. According to her, four more men joined the toddler’s mother in beating Rodriguez, kicking him him and breaking his ribs.

“When I [took] the picture, she said, ‘Oh, he tried to touch my girl,’” said the witness. “I saw everything. This [was] a lie.”

According to the passerby, as Rodriguez was being beaten, the mother shouted “Go back to your country, why are you here?” at the elderly man.

A GoFundMe account has been started to cover Rodriguez’s $15,000 in medical costs, which include broken ribs, a broken cheekbones, and bruising throughout his body. As of Monday morning, the drive has raised nearlty $30,000.
