This just in—President Trump has launched over 50 Tomahawk Missiles to an airfield that US intelligence believes was the source of the chemical attacks.
Fox News currently has a live feed going:
Most other major media outlets are telling a similar story, but the question still remains: how do we know that this was actually Assad and not ISIS? We don’t want this to be another Iraq with “weapons of mass destruction,” all over again.
According to NBC News:
“The United States launched dozens of cruise missiles Thursday night at a Syrian airfield in response to what it believes was Syria’s use of banned chemical weapons that killed at least 100 people, U.S. military officials told NBC News.”
“Two U.S. warships in the Mediterranean Sea fired 59 Tomahawk missiles intended for a single target — Ash Sha’irat in Homs province in western Syria, the officials said. That’s the airfield from which the United States believes the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fired the banned weapons.”
“There was no immediate word on casualties. U.S. officials told NBC News that people were not targeted and that aircraft and infrastructure at the site were hit, including the runway and gas fuel pumps.”
Hopefully this doesn’t escalate into a full blown WWIII with Russia. I doubt that it will, but who knows—only time will tell. Stay tuned for breaking updates.
The NY Times reports:
“President Trump said Thursday night that the United States had carried out a missile strike in Syria on Thursday night in response to the Syrian government’s chemical weapons attack this week that killed more than 80 civilians.”
“ ‘Tonight, I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched,” Mr. Trump said in remarks at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. “It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.’ ”
“A senior military official said that 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles had hit Al Shayrat airfield in Syria. The missiles were aimed at Syrian fighter jets and other infrastructure but did not target anything that may have had chemical weapons.”
What’s interesting to me is that liberals are claiming that Trump is a Russian spy, but he just took action against Syria, and by proxy, Russia. If liberals keep pushing the “Trump/Russia” hoax after this, they’ll have gone full blown stupid.
The Chicago Tribune has more to add:
“The U.S. strikes hit the government-controlled Shayrat air base in central Syria, where U.S. officials say the Syrian military planes that dropped the chemicals had taken off. The U.S. missiles hit at 8:45 p.m. in Washington, 3:45 a.m. Friday morning in Syria. The missiles targeted the base’s airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, officials said.”
“Syrian state TV reported a U.S. missile attack on a number of military targets and called the attack an ‘aggression.’ “
“The surprise U.S. assault marked a striking reversal for Trump, who warned as a candidate against the U.S. getting pulled into the Syrian civil war, now in its seventh year. But the president earlier in the week appeared moved by the photos of children killed in the chemical attack, calling it a ‘disgrace to humanity’ that crossed ‘a lot of lines.’ “
Is there even any evidence that it was Assad that did the gas attacks? Is Assad keeping the Middle East more stable, or does he need to go? Others such as Ron Paul have been claiming that this is all a hoax to get us into yet ANOTHER war, to feed the militarized industrial complex:
“ ‘I looked at The New York Times to get the explanation, and they said ‘Worst Chemical Attack In Years In Syria, U.S. Blames Assad,’ Paul said. ‘So it is all over and done with? But it is not quite so easy, is it? What happened four years ago in 2013? You know, this whole thing about crossing the Red Line. And ever since then the neo-cons have been yelling and screaming — even part of the administration has been yelling and screaming about Assad using poison gasses on his people four years ago. Not quite true. It was never proven.’ ”
“ “It doesn’t make any sense for Assad under these conditions to all of a sudden use poison gasses,’ he continued. ‘I think there is a zero chance he would have done, you know, this deliberately. But we could also go ask a famous Senator who is famous for foreign policy. We could go ask John McCain to explain it. And he found somebody to blame. And I don’t know why he has it in for the president.’ “
