Millions of Muslims have beaten themselves with sharp blades, covered their bodies in mood, and lit bonfires to mourn the death of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson—a Muslim holiday otherwise known as “Ashura.”
Many conservatives have grown increasingly concerned over the lack of Muslim integration in this country, and while liberals staunchly defend their right to practice their religion, that hasn’t stopped Americans from feeling a bit displaced. Over the past decade, there’s been a growing nationalist movement in the US in response to an uptick in immigration.
Some have claimed that this “alt-right” as it’s sometimes called is deeply rooted in racism, sexism, and xenophobia, but the members themselves tell a different story. Organizations such as Identity Evropa and the National Policy Institute claim that they’re fighting to preserve Judeo-Christian culture.
Leaders of the far right have often pointed out media bias against Christians, and have suggested that the media’s complete blackout on the gory holiday of “Ashura” is an attempt to ignore the more controversial aspects of Islam. This is a claim that liberals have denied, but that conservatives steadfastly cling by.
Consensus on the Muslim holiday of Ashura seems to be divided, with some sources claiming it’s largely a set of peaceful marches, and others pointing out the bloody rituals which frequently take place during the sacred day. American Holidays Calendar reports:
Shi’ite Muslims all around the world had been beating themselves with sharp blades, masking their bodies in mud and lighting bonfires within the streets to mourn the demise of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson these days.
Pics from all over the world, confirmed shockingly younger boys lashing their personal backs with small knives and chains. Lots of men performed the identical brutal exercise in Lebanon, Bangladesh, Iraq, Pakistan and Myanmar and even Athens, Greece.
The bloody rituals had been a part of the holy Day of Ashura, while Shi’ite Muslims take into account the loss of life of Imam Hussein at the battle of Karbala in 680 AD
Who is Hussain reports that Ashura is a “day of mourning” in which millions of people across the world “visit the shrine of Hussain ibn Ali,” to pay him tribute. Many Muslims also partake in “large peaceful gatherings,” where they “recite poems” and “display their grievance.”
Regardless, the virtual media blackout on this holiday has left many uneasy. Pamela Geller, staunch critic of Islam, has pulled numerous videos of the holiday taking place throughout American cities such as New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and more.
Below can be seen a two hour procession of Muslims marching through the streets in Chicago, Illinois. Hundreds, if not thousands of devout Muslims can be seen parading through the streets, reciting verses from the Quran, and chanting prayer hymns to honor the death of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson.
Another video below depicts thousands of Muslims celebrating the holiday of Ashura in New York City. They first can be seen carrying what appears to be a funeral casket somewhere indoors, while later storming the streets and chanting verses from the Quran and singing prayer hymns. It is followed by a video from a celebration in Virginia.
Upon seeing this footage, many Americans may be shocked—the Muslim holiday doesn’t receive much publicity, but has been quietly terrifying Christians who fear they’re being replaced. Again, constitutionalists have expressed their willingness to accept the display of faith, in defense of the first amendment, but many conservatives such as Milo Yiannopoulos disagree.
The inflammatory blogger, who is a self-identified homosexual, has been called the “Most Hated Man on the Internet,” due to his provocative style of debate and often controversial views. Yiannopoulos, ex-editor of Breitbart, has repeatedly condemned Islam and noted that they have a “one way morality.”
In an interview with Joe Rogan, podcast host and MMA commentator, Yiannopoulos said that there were “structural differences” between Islam and Christianity, which makes it incompatible with Western Civilization. “100% of [British Muslims] said that homosexuality was unacceptable,” he said. “52% of those people want gay sex made illegal.”
While the debate between balancing freedom of religion and preserving Western Civilization rages on, America remains more polarized than ever…and while many celebrities such as George Clooney and Ben Affleck have pointed out that not all Muslims are violent, conservative speakers such as Bill Maher and Tucker Carlson have noted that there’s an undeniable link between Islam and terrorism.
