A newly-released email from WikiLeaks reveals that the Clinton campaign worried that Hillary Clinton would not appear warm or human enough during a reporter’s interview. They came up with a novel – and frightening – solution that gives some insight into her behind-the-scenes temperament.

The email, which is included below and can be seen by clicking right here, pointed out worries from the campaign that Hillary Clinton has a hard time looking warm and relatable. The email is from Neera Tanden, a political activist, domestic policy adviser and the President of Center for American Progress. She is a close friend and advisor of Clinton as well, or at least she WAS before this email was released. The email mentions an upcoming interview with “Andrea,” which is very likely Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC. Clinton gave a rare interview to Mitchell less than 24 hours after this email was sent.
In the email, she states “During the height of the primaries, when she was doing morning show after morning show, she would be relatively unpleasant,” and jokingly proposed a solution.
“Have her beat the shit out of a punch doll (or maybe a staffer)…so she would be warm and charming in the interview,” Tanden suggests. While the suggestion is obviously in jest, it appears Tanden was legitimately concerned about Clinton’s temperament to mention it behind her back. Now we know why Bill Clinton rarely shares the campaign trail with his wife.
